What is an EME and what B-BBEE level do I qualify for?

An Exempted Micro Enterprise (EME) is a business with an annual turnover of R10 million or less. EMEs are automatically Level 4 B-BBEE contributors. If more than 51% of the business is black-owned, the entity qualifies as Level 1. If more than 30% is black-owned, it qualifies as Level 2. These higher levels significantly improve your competitiveness in procurement.

Do I need a SANAS-accredited verification agency?

Not if you qualify as an EME or as a majority black-owned QSE. The B-BBEE Act expressly allows these entities to use a sworn affidavit as their compliance instrument , no formal verification agency is required. This saves significant cost and time compared to a full SANAS verification.

How long is a B-BBEE certificate valid for?
