Company Registration

Corporate Secretarial & Compliance

Registering your company with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) is the first legal step to operating a legitimate business in South Africa. The structure you choose , whether a Private Company (Pty) Ltd, Non-Profit Company (NPC), or Personal Liability Company , has significant implications for taxation, liability, governance, and funding. Getting it right from the outset saves considerable time, cost, and complexity later.
Cornerstone Advisory manages the complete CIPC registration process on your behalf. We advise you on the most appropriate entity structure for your business goals, handle all documentation, submit on your behalf, and follow through until your registration certificate is in hand. Beyond initial registration, we also manage all ongoing CIPC obligations , so your company stays in good standing at all times.
"The right company structure is the foundation of your business and it's far easier to get right at the start than to fix later."

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does company registration take?
Typically 1–5 business days depending on the completeness of documentation and CIPC processing times. Name reservation can take 1–2 business days and is the usual first step. We manage the entire process so you don’t have to follow up with CIPC yourself.
A Private Company (Pty) Ltd is a for-profit entity with shareholders and directors , the most common structure for businesses. A Non-Profit Company (NPC) is used for organisations that don’t distribute profits to members, such as charities, community organisations, and NGOs. We advise on the right structure based on your objectives.
The General Laws Amendment Act requires all companies to maintain and file a beneficial ownership register with CIPC. This declares the natural persons who ultimately own or control the company. Failure to file can result in penalties. We handle this as part of your registration and ongoing compliance.
Yes. CIPC requires a registered address for the company but it does not need to be your trading address. We can advise on using a registered address service if needed. The address must be a physical address , a PO Box is not accepted by CIPC.
